1. What is the best SEO strategy for 2021?
I don’t think there is an answer to this question
Create great content, promote it, build links to it, grow your brand – these things are very important if you want to build the kind of website that will continue to rank in Google for years to come.

2. What skill sets do people need to possess in order to become an online influencer?
If you want to create your following online, there are only two things you should focus on:
- Gaining a unique skill or knowledge that puts you among at least 10% of the best people in your field.
- Learn how to promote yourself, usually by creating engaging content to teach people some of your knowledge (or perhaps entertain them with your skills).
3. About Keyword Research – Do you think keyword research is necessary for every website and business?
It is very difficult to increase search traffic to your website if you do not know what people are searching for.
By learning to do proper keyword research, you can easily identify topics that might bring you a decent amount of search traffic from Google while not being insanely difficult to rank for.

4. What does your typical day as Ahrefs CMO look like?
I spend most of my time helping the marketing team work more efficiently. Sometimes I need to give some advice to our team members about the things I’m good at.
Other times, I need to actually listen to the advice my team members give me and make the right decision, even if I originally wanted to do it differently.
Other than that, I like to get my hands dirty and do some marketing projects myself. In many cases it involves creating content for our blog, YouTube channel or social networks.
5. What are the three marketing tools you cannot live without?
I wouldn’t be able to live without Ahrefs, obviously
But other than that, I like to call Twitter and Facebook my marketing “tools”. These two social networks help me connect with current and future clients.
6. What is your first tip for a new blogger (or marketer)?
Stop rewriting articles you read in other blogs and do something interesting that you can write down later.
It would be a good example of that The story of how we hired 3 different copywriting agencies to rewrite our homepage copy.
You may not have the budget to do a similar trick, but there are a lot of interesting things that don’t require any money, but only your time and effort.
Main takeaway: Create unique content that actually solves problems. Learn copywriting as it helps you generate better conversions. Also, you can do miracles by putting in more effort to create better content. Stop worrying about not having a budget. Instead, spend more time creating useful content.
7. How do you manage your time to keep your site organized in search engine marketing?
I’m afraid I can’t call myself a time management expert. I recently became a father for the second time and my daily schedule is a mess. I just try to do some work whenever I get the chance.
For example, I’m writing this on a Saturday afternoon sitting in a coffee shop and waiting for my 5-year-old son to finish his gymnastics class.
8. What is the one thing that works well with Ahrefs?
The “thing” that the Ahrefs have under the hood. I’m talking about all the technology and all the hardware that makes Ahrefs so powerful.
Our founder and CEO Dmitri He’s built an amazing technical team that can do complex things that our competitors can’t replicate. If we didn’t have this advantage, our marketing would be just as effective.

Main takeaway: Having a great team helps a lot in the business. Find the right people who can get things done. Sets you apart from the crowd. One of the reasons for the Ahrefs’ success is the CEO who brought a great team to the table.
9. I have created a lot of content. How important is content marketing to business? How did that work for you?
For Ahrefs, content marketing has been exceptionally successful.
- It helped us get a large number of organic targeted search traffic from Google
- It helped us attract new clients
- We’ve helped educate our customers on how to get the most out of Ahrefs
- It has helped us position ourselves as thought leaders in the industry

10. You are Ahrefs Chief Marketing Officer. Is this something you were aiming for or did it come naturally? What’s the story behind that?
This was really accidental. I don’t remember having a specific goal of becoming a Marketing Director.
In fact, by the time Dmitriy invited me to join Ahrefs, I was actually booting my own business online – I had a personal blog and was developing and selling premium plugins for WordPress.
But joining an existing and fairly successful company and taking responsibility for all of its marketing seemed like a daunting challenge. So I accepted Dmitry’s offer and moved to Singapore.
11. What is your biggest SEO win?
My biggest “SEO gain” would have been ranking for the term “SEO”. But recently, Google published their “SEO Getting Started Guide” which ranks very high and gives no chance for anyone else to outdo them.
Main takeaway: Ranking for some competitive terms like “SEO” is very difficult. You need a large number of links, great content, and a proper understanding of SEO to be able to rank for highly competitive keywords.
